Management is a small ma and pa shop right on saint marks. They're responsive, nice, and willing to work with you. They're nothing like most of the other commercialized landlords I've dealt with in the city.
The backyard / courtyard. It is very pleasant out there. Spacious, quiet. A great place to relax, do some work, or hangout with friends. Of course it’s really only best during the warmer months.
Never had a single pest or vermin in the building.
Cons:
Heat is electric which kinda sucks.
I didn’t realize before moving in that the tub itself had an indent in the middle that would cause a massive puddle to form after showing. Since it was too concave, the water couldn’t drain. Not a dealbreaker kind of issue but when I asked the landlord what they could do, their recommendation was “get a squeegee”. Every time I showered, I’d have to take a broom and push the water till it all drained. Nbd.
The bar Josie’s downstairs draws crowds in the warmer months. Since it’s a quiet side street, it ends up being kind of the only noise on the block and can be apparent into the late hours. You’ll be bound to hear the regulars who show up everyday during happy hour and laugh their asses off and their yappy little dog.
One of the biggest issues was the construction of the units and that there’s virtually no insulation between them. You can easily hear the footsteps of anyone in the stairwell echo into your bedroom. When my next door neighbor ran the washing machine it would vibrate and shake my entire apartment. Those honestly weren’t even a big deal. The dealbreaker for this apartment was that my upstairs neighbor had a large dog. On just about a daily basis I got the opportunity to be tortured by banging and crashing noises all freaking day. I had to start wearing earplugs to bed as the neighbor would carelessly come home drunk in the middle of the night and play with their dog. These are the thinnest walls I’ve dealt with in my 5 years of living in NYC so if you have a crappy neighbor, you will hear them.
