old and not maintained
Pros
big apartments, nice wooden floors pre war building
Cons
haunted elevator, excessive heat, roaches, mice, UGLY common areas
Advice to the owners
actually do your job
You’re on your own.
Pros
The guy who manages the waste and cleans the building does a great job. He’s cool.
Cons
1. Good luck getting a hold of management. 2. If you ever want to switch apartments, the gatekeeper Sibura will make up any excuse to keep you from applying. She made up rules that don’t exist in Section 8 to discourage me from applying for an upstairs apartment I’d inquired about before it was even on the market. Make sure you contact a case worker with questions because she will give you the runaround, discourage you, or make things up. 3. My neighbor downstairs has been complaining about a leak that has basically dissolved their bathroom ceiling. The plumbers they sent made a hole (removed part of the old dingy tiles) and left the bathroom looking terrible. Now there’s a spot with no tiles. And the leak is still not fixed. 4. The electric wiring is SUPER old meaning you can’t make any upgrades because there is no grounding wire. The old bulb style fuses blow if you have too many things connected. The Kitchen, living room and bedrooms share the same line so if you have a large fridge, microwave, tv, and AC going you can’t just connect a blow dryer or a fan. 5. The ceilings are high (which is a pro) but only because the floors are thin. So there is no noise absorbing insulation between you and your neighbor’s running child upstairs. I can hear my downstairs neighbor cough. 6. Only one elevator. And it goes out VERY frequently.
