Former Tenant
Pros:
Good size apartment (roomie and I lived in 4L), lots of living space. Laundry always worked. Close to subway, great neighborhood. Water pressure and temp was great. Heat was decent in the winter, used a small space heater at times to supplement on especially cold days. Easy to keep clean. Overall, even with my cons, I would've chosen to stay had the landlord not drastically hiked the rent/been more willing to negotiate.
Cons:
Building is kept up okay, nothing that blew my socks off. Lobby/stairs/halls weren't cleaned super often (monthly, it seemed), and sometimes the trash wasn't taken out on trash day and got piled up (this happened only a handful of times through the year that I lived here). There are some small broken things through the building, such as the main building door handles sometimes coming off, and the stairs leading down to the laundry being cracked. The super we had at the time of our residency was incompetent/inexperienced and also not responsive, but looks like they might be getting a new one soon so hopefully that changes. The renovation that had been done previously was definitely cheap, our cabinet doors kept loosening, the handles on the closets came off, the closet doors themselves came off, the bathroom wall near the tub has a hole in it that was very shoddily patched. The street noise can get loud at times because it's one of the only two-way streets in the neighborhood...lots of sirens. But they weren't constant.
Advice to owner:
More regular cleaning for common spaces, please. Please fix all the little things in 4L, the stairs leading down to the laundry, and the door handles of the building itself. Also please hire a super who actually knows what he's doing.
