There was a fire in building on the 2nd floor in July 2023 on a Saturday morning. Property management emergency line was not working and no one from B manage, our building’s property management attempted to communicate or recognize that the fire occurred. As a former tenant, this was one of the most traumatic weekends of my life. There was fire and a lack of response from the super or building management. Our hallways were left with shattered glass and ash for over 48 hours. There was no light in the hallways for that time as well. Our doors were forced open by the firefighters and locks were broken, i had to call an emergency locksmith to ensure my safety at night since we were left completely vulnerable to strangers entering the unit. A tenant who was out of town never got notice of this occurrence and arrived on Sunday night very confused. We were left in an unsafe living situation and property management has yet to address it or compensate us for our living disturbance.

It is unclear what caused the fire. The tenant of the unit that burnt down stated that the fire occurred in the kitchen due to a electric issue. The building had water leaks and water damage in the walls, we could hear the rain drops in the wall and we documented and reported this several times. Management never addressed the issue.

Additionally there was mold, mice, and roaches in the building. Pest control was called continuously. The building had very thin walls and you can hear everything from neighbors to cars driving by. Our front building door was consistently unlocked bc management refused to replace it completely or invest in a door that closes automatically.

I think this building is extremely unsafe, I think the property management and superintendent Sam are untrustworthy. I would not live here under any circumstance.

At the time my lease ended, the management building had no idea and continued to send me rent receipts. I had to request security deposit back several times, i believe they wouldn’t have provided if I wasn’t insistent. Tenants were not treated like humans, we were just money to them.
Advice to owner:
To care about thier tenants and care about thier safety.
