It was a good size apartment for the money, advertised as a 2-bedroom but should only be a 1-bedroom as one room has no window.
Cons:
When I tried to get a new roommate, he refused to let me rent to foreign students or anyone without a social security number. He said they were impossible to sue and he would sue me instead if I rented to somebody without a ssn. (He said anyone rooming with me was just the first step to being a Dreamer—did I mention he is a major Trump supporter with the television in his office always turned to Fox News?) He fabricated lies to kick my first roommate out of our apartment, including the lie that damage from her cats required him to replace all of the flooring (so he kept her deposit). Not surprisingly, he also kept my $3600 deposit, some of which he was fairly due because of damage from my pet, but much of which should have been returned to me. He claimed that I had “left a bunch of nail holes” in the wall as explanation. Reader, he had given me verbal permission to hang artwork, and the holes would have been very easily patched. Did I mention he was actually banned from posting to The Listings Project due to discriminatory housing practices? Oh, and one other thing, the apartment should have been rent-stabilized, but he lied his way out of that requirement in the early 2000s claiming that he was charging 2100 for the apartment, a full 300 above the market rate when I lived there. You can request the records from the city. Might be worth looking into if for some ungodly reason you decide to rent here.
Advice to owner:
I have no advice, I know the landlord will go his own way, regardless of advice.
