The day to day management of this building is great. The super team is amazing! So friendly and helpful. They also put out seasonal decor sometimes which helps us all feel at home. The building is a gorgeous pre-war. Apartments are nothing fancy, but you’re not really paying for fancy. A bit cold in the winter, but comfortable overall. Don’t expect any bonus amenities, but the basics are done well. Trash gets bagged up in a timely manner, an exterminator is available every month, the lobby is clean, the elevator pretty much always works. Also love that it’s a relatively quiet building occupied by nice people in a co venue to neighborhood. Flatbush has a lot to offer!
Cons:
The management company is lazy and disorganized. Period. They’ve mysteriously “lost” our rent checks multiple times (and we haven’t lived here long!). Oh, but they “lose” them after actually taking our rent money. Then don’t contact us about the supposedly missing payment in any way other than repeatedly including a past due balance on monthly statements. I tried calling them for a solid 5 months, left a voicemail every single time, and got literally zero response.
Should also be noted that our apartment definitely wasn’t inspected or cleaned when we moved in. We moved into an apartment with a significant German roach infestation. Now—I’m not new to city living and I know how to get rid of roaches. I am now pretty much bug-free, but I doubt the whole building is. Makes me wonder what kind of job that monthly exterminator is doing. Be warned.
FWIW, if you look up Parkway Realty you’ll see that they’re trying to force illegal evictions during COVID. Hasn’t happened to me firsthand, but they shouldn’t get away with targeting people like this. Unfortunately they now own a lot of the buildings in this part of the neighborhood.
Advice to owner:
Get it together! You have no reason to be this absurdly disorganized—and no business forcing illegal evictions.
