Former Tenant
Pros:
when i lived there, it was usually clean and i had no pests or issues. this was in 2017-18 and i’ve heard it got worse since. i didn’t have a lot of problems but i know a lot of people that did, with stuff such as bed bugs, mold, mice.
Cons:
common areas were not that clean, and kitchen only has a hot plate. you can get a bigger, better place in the same area for much cheaper.
Advice to owner:
i believe they changed management when i left or shortly after so i’m not sure

Worst Place Ever — Might As Well Be A Scam
Former Tenant
Pros:
1) It’s a “dorm” for Brooklyn College but the residency isn’t actually owned by the college. Anyone can live there
2) I enjoyed my less than 70 sq feet studio just because I could rent alone without having to pass income thresholds that the city generally requires (it was $9,800 for about 4 months and if you move in earlier than the move-in date, you pay a per-day rate though that may have changed)
3) The tiny studio has a bathroom bigger than its living space

(70 square feet is basically one computer table, one chair, and one tiny bed side-by-side. The door doesn’t fully open because it slams the closet. You squeeze through the space.)
Cons:
A LOT
1) I had a major mold problem and the cleaning men blamed *me* or every other irrelevant issue. For instance, the dude said I left the heat on which caused the mold... I left the heat on cause it’s cold. What’s that got to do with mold? They sprayed Windex on the rug and considered it a job done. The mold started from rain leaking through the HVAC by the window — we can’t open the windows so there’s a clear problem.
2) The cleaning people might be sex offenders. When I first submitted an issue with the mold, a man “fixed” it when I was in my studio. He then kept knocking on my door doing random, uncalled for things on random days. One time he brought books to me. For what reason? I knew he came in without me even submitting a ticket for any issue because he stepped on the bed with his shoes on (there were prints on it).
3) Though not an official dorm, students do live there. It is near Brooklyn College after all. The unit across from me had a clear partying problem that included drugs.
4) When I left the studio, I never got my deposit back. They wouldn’t answer my outreach either. They probably blamed the mold issue on me and held me responsible
5) For the price I paid, I could’ve gotten a much better apartment elsewhere if I had full-time income. I didn’t and resorted here. I should’ve just stayed home with parents instead.
6) Don’t listen to people who praise the place — they’re just young college students happy to live away from home and don’t know much about genuine apartment renting. My whole time at the residence, I didn’t meet one person who was an actual professional — from maintenance to the office managing the place.
Advice to owner:
Take complaints seriously especially if it relates to the property like damages, mold, etc. Someone else will live there. That someone else might have major health issues related to the damages. That someone else might be far more aggressive than me and sue you. I know a non-profit offered me free legal services to sue but I didn’t bother.
