Buyer beware, they like to keep security deposits.
Pros
I learned how to get rid of roaches and mice.
Cons
New property owners do not respond to phone calls or certified mail. Offered no leases for tenants but increased the rent 18% as soon as they took over (Oct 2022) while I was still there and then another 7.5% after I moved out (Dec 2022). They basically painted over the black mold on the bedroom windowsills and painted over the water damaged back wall by the radiator. They also lied about the deep closet space in their ad - the hall closet is super small and shallow and the free standing one left in the bedroom by the tenant before me, has hinges that snap off and screw holes that are stripped. Also, know that if you work anywhere outside of Brooklyn, your commute is going to be bad whether you drive or take the subway- the R train is slow and crowded, the 86th street station is disgusting (near 85th entrance) and the BQE is awful if you drive. For car owners: be prepared to walk a few blocks since homeowners take most of the on street parking while their driveways and garages stay unused. Also, be prepared to deal with a family who is arrogant, ignorant, and greedy. They kept half my security deposit because the new apt property owners changed my move date last minute. Select Bay Ridge claimed it was my fault the apt stayed empty for the month even though they knew the apt needed a paint job and the floors needed to be refinished. New apt owners, however, pro-rated my first month’s rent. The real reason Select Bay Ridge kept half of the security is because I refused to pay the 18% increase without receiving 90 days notice, time due to my being a tenant in that apt for 11 years. Now, I’m in a larger apt, newly painted, beautiful hardwood floors, with large closets that is rent stabilized for about $350 dollars less than what the old apartment costs with a truly wonderful live in super.
