AnhTest Affordable and Spacious Crown Heights Living with Room for Improvement
Pros
The building is located in Crown Heights, a neighborhood known for its cultural diversity and lively community vibe, with easy access to local cafes, shops, and Prospect Park nearby. Public transportation is convenient, with the 2, 3, 4, and 5 trains within walking distance, making commuting to Manhattan or other parts of Brooklyn manageable. The apartments are spacious for the area, with many units featuring high ceilings and plenty of natural light, giving a more open feel at an affordable price. The neighborhood has a strong community presence, with events, food markets, and local businesses that add charm and character to daily life. Parking is easier to find here than in other parts of Brooklyn, making it a good option if you have a car.
Cons
The building is older and could use some updates, especially in the hallways and common areas, which feel a bit worn and outdated. Noise can be an issue, both from the street and within the building, as walls are thin, and you may occasionally hear neighbors. Some units have dated appliances and fixtures, which may require upgrades to improve comfort and functionality. Maintenance requests can take time to get resolved, with some tenants reporting slower response times from management. The neighborhood, while vibrant, may not be ideal for those looking for a quieter setting, as it can be lively, particularly on weekends.
It’s been fine
Pros
Some apartments have in unit washer/dryers and dishwashers. I’m guessing they’ve renovated old apartments as people move out. The building is maintained well, from what I can see. They take the garbage out twice a day on each floor and mop every day. Neighbors are kind. Apartments are very spacious for New York.
Cons
When I moved in our unit had roaches and there was no apology from the management. It was never disclosed prior to moving in. We ended up discovering they were coming in from openings around the medicine cabinet. We have caulked around it on our own accord and have not seen any roaches in a couple of weeks. I will add that management sent an exterminator to come inspect the unit and he was very helpful. Additionally, some neighbors do smoke marijuana outside their windows causing the smell to come into our apartments. But it’s New York so you can’t do anything about that.
Advice to the owners
Remediate bug issues prior to new tenants moving in and ensure units are properly cleaned
