Former Tenant
Pros:
Close to the bus and 30 min walk to Main St Flushing. Good food nearby.
Cons:
Landlord took forever to repair or install anything shared between units (the dryer was out for a whole 2 months, and never followed up on the AC in the unit after 1.5 months). Expectations for restoring the unit to how it was when leaving were also unreasonable, exaggerating small nail holes and a paint chip in the wall ledge as major damage, and then taking a huge chunk out of the security deposit. Not surprised that the tenant who used to be in the basement spray painted and caused real damage instead. Not surprised there is also high tenant turnover in this multifamily building. It's also pet friendly, but the dog on the top floor is very yappy, so you'll hear it in the early mornings every day. There are also huge ant infestations when it gets warm. Landlord also took last month's rent on top of security deposit when contract was signed, but NY had a law that banned last month's rent from being taken-- he wasn't up to date or just decided to do it anyway.

The worst parts about this unit is the ventilation and plumbing. There is no window in the bathroom and it's difficult to get any air flow in. The plumbing is also weak, so you need to flush multiple times for the toilet, and the shower is not calibrated with the water temperature correctly, so expect to sear yourself a few times if you're here.

There are definitely better rentals for the price you'd pay here. I would look elsewhere than deal with all these problems again.
Advice to owner:
There are certain responsibilities landlords are responsible for. Pitting all costs on tenants are how you don't keep good tenants. Investing so little into a property you are renting out also does not help you keep good tenants.

At the very least, fix the plumbing. There's not enough blood, sweat, or tears there based on how weak it is and how little it was cared for before renting out.

And remember that it is now illegal to take last month's rent on top of security deposit.
