Former tenant·Over 2 years ago

Too-nosy landlord and thief in the basement

Pros

Quiet street, large units, lots of sunlight

Cons

Oh boy. The landlady insisted on coming and searching the units every month when we paid rent. I get it because there was a squatter situation with previous tenants but damn. We got a notice posted to the building about « no one is allowed to live here unless they are on the lease » because the landlady « saw two males with keys entering the property », which was my then-boyfriend and his friend with my keys getting me soup when I was sick. So, I’m not allowed to have boys over? What is this, a boarding school? Then the apartment below me started having their packages go missing. They would knock on the basement door because all packages had to go through there, and they always said « no we don’t have it, and how dare you we didn’t steal it » then one day the downstairs tenant looked through the window and saw several boxes addressed to her with « return to sender » stickers on them. There was then screaming on the phone heard through the building that night. Basement tenant is the landlady’s daughter and she was mad at having to always sign for the packages so she sent them back out of spite - WTF? Also ALSO the rent goes up $100 every year like clockwork for nooooo reason, it’s not like the unit, building or neighborhood is improving.

Advice to the owners

Stop with draconian rules and get your daughter in line!
