Former tenant·Over 1 year ago

21 E 2nd St

Pros

-Great Super -Clean Building -Trash is very well kept -Local Landlord (not a large investment group) -Low tenant turnover due to reasonable rents

Cons

-No laundry -Relatively quiet for east village however sometimes during the day people will sit on the citi bikes on the street and cause some disruptions however they are pretty infrequent

Advice to the owners

Keep doing what you are doing

Landlord will pull the rug from under you

Pros

Nice super, great garbage system, spacious apartment, great light.

Cons

Paid 5k realtor fee to move in, was told landlord “almost never raises rent”, following year- building manager calls two weeks before lease renewal informing of 1k monthly rent increase, calling it generous as they really want 1.5k more (despite no improvements to raise value of this old unit). Noisy street traffic, relentless honking/banging street sounds in morning, far laundry.

Advice to the owners

Maybe treat your tenants like humans, offering some notice of a massive/ unreasonable rent increase. We pleaded for a $300 increase, were respectful of the building, never caused issues and paid rent on time. Maybe not adding insult to injury by calling yourself generous for the abrupt 1k increase is a start.
