Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent tenant feedback for buildings managed by Alvin Glick highlights well-maintained, character-rich properties with clean common areas and spacious apartments that feature modern updates. Residents appreciate the responsive management and attentive supers, noting efficient garbage management and generally strong pest control efforts when issues arise. However, some challenges include occasional pests, old windows letting in street noise, and very warm heating in winter requiring window ventilation. Hot water delay in some units has also been mentioned. Overall, tenants value the management’s responsiveness and upkeep, recommending these buildings for their safety, charm, and solid living environment.

Cozy with a few small problems

Pros

The building has a ton if character, clean and modern hallways and lobby, a great management company, and the apartments are spacious with lots of charm and natural light. Kitchens and bathrooms were recently updated. The neighborhood is great, pretty peaceful and we are right next to 2 private schools, so feels very safe. The bar downstairs is very quiet. The walls inside the apartment are super thick and we never hear anything from our neighbors.

Cons

We’ve had a few pest control problems but management has been helpful in sending exterminators. We’ve had a few mice in the winters and a few roaches in the summers, but have since found all the holes in our apartment and havent had any problems since. Although this building is jn a quiet neighborhood, the windows are pretty old so you pretty much hear everything on the street below.

Advice to the owners

Be a little more cognizant about closing up holes when making repairs in the apartment to avoid pest problems!

Roasting in the winter

Pros

Common areas are kept pretty clean. For instance, they come and vacuum the carpeted areas periodically. The Trash is pretty well-maintained, and they move it to a staging area when it is close to pickup. The supers have always been nice and responsive.

Cons

Did not like being in a walkup, but you get what you pay for. Because it is an old building, you will roast in the winter when the heat is turned on - IF you keep your windows closed. During the winter, I keep both windows nearly wide open to maintain a comfortable temperature. Second, there is hot water, but it takes 5-10 minutes for hot water to reach you, depending on where you are in relation to the boiler. Sometimes you actually have to budget extra time for a shower/wash dishes because of that. Because of this a ton of water is wasted. As far as I know I haven't been paying for water because of this. In the summer, there is a built in air conditioning in my unit, which is great, and I'm generally fine.
