Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent tenant feedback on buildings managed by Max Jacobs reflects a mixed experience. Some buildings, especially at 70 St Nicholas Ave, are praised for cleanliness, prompt maintenance, pest control, and responsive management, contributing to tenant satisfaction and a good neighborhood atmosphere. However, other properties like those on Boerum Street and Flushing Avenue reveal challenges such as poor owner responsiveness, rent hikes causing tenant turnover, noisy neighbors, pest issues, and maintenance delays. Water damage, heating inconsistencies, and communication problems also appear in reviews. Tenants advise improvements in communication, timely repairs, and rent stability to build trust and long-term residency.

Reviews

Former tenant·11 months ago

not the worst but definitely not good

Pros

laundry in basement, pet-friendly, near the subway

Cons

the landlords are rude, not responsive, and do not handle things in a timely fashion (if they’re handled at all). neighbors were very noisy

Former tenant·Over 1 year ago

Not bad for the price.

Pros

Cheap rent. Decent space. Good layout for couples, theres a 2nd "bedroom" in the railroad that can be used as an office if you dont mind your partner walking through. Great part of the neighborhood. Responsive maintenance

Cons

Backyard is not maintained and not accessible from upstairs apartments. Doors are not insulated from noise well, can clearly hear conversations from people in the hall way and im sure they can hear me. Lack of outlets, common for old buildings. No vents in kitchen. No sink in bathroom, only in kitchen. FIRE ESCAPE IS FALLING APART, missing stairs, dangerous.

Advice to the owners

Better doors. Fix the fire escape.
