Slumlord Alert: Avoid at ALL COSTS
Pros
Decent location, quiet neighborhood, apartment itself is fine.
Cons
Landlord is incredibly shady and combative. He will make your life difficult just to squeeze any extra $ out of you and does the bare minimum in maintenance. The rent price is low for the space, but the year-long headache is just not worth it. Building is terribly maintained, smells like cigarette/dog, hallway is never cleaned. The building has a ton of dangerous water damage that keeps getting painted over.
Horrendous landlord. Terrible building structure. RUN!!!!

The neighbors were lovely.
Cons
The building is disgusting and the structure is terrible. You can hear the neighbors sneezing upstairs and the cigarette smoke from the super (who was living illegally in the basement of building!) would come up through the floor. The landlord is the worst I’ve ever encountered in 30 years of living in NYC. We went to court for rent discrepancy and the landlord tried to claim we owed 2-3x as much as we actually did. The judge must have known about him because they sided with us and we didn’t even have to pay what we were prepared to pay.
