Decent place with some minor drawbacks. A bit expensive for what you get
Pros
I personally really liked the 2br layout, with bedrooms at each end, and shared area in the middle. No noise from roommates that way. Noise from neighbors in building is usually minimal, but neighbors across the road like to blast music Fridays etc - the usual Bushwick thing, not too terrible. Landlords are generally v responsive and helpful. They refunded my deposit in full without trouble. Rooftop is v nice to have, although there's nothing special up there. Used to be a better view of Manhattan, but no longer due to new buildings. Radiators are fairly quiet (no clanking). It generally feels clean. Laundry in unit! It's rent stabilized but the rent is pretty high anyway... (At least pre covid)
Cons
Shared area is small with no natural light except for a transom window, which doesn't help much. Also no AC, means the shared area gets really hot in summer. Noisy neighbors across street. Was freshly renovated in 2015. No pests at first but from 2019 we had mice. They come in through the radiator vents. Also scratch the walls. By blocking the radiator vents you can stop them from coming in. I also noticed a few roaches but no more than say 1 a month. They put thermostats in, which mean you have to pay for heating BUT there is only one thermostat, in one of the bedrooms. So only one person can control the heat. So we just had to keep the thermostat cranked up, and use the radiator taps (on/off only) to control the heat. I stayed here for 5 years and mostly enjoyed it. I'd say it's a fairly decent place, except that I think there are much better options for the price. Electricity and gas bills tend to be expensive. With internet as well, bills totaled $200/mo.
Advice to the owners
Would be nice if the thermostat thing could be improved if possible. And the mice problem needs to be solved.
