Damage to building was never repaired on time
Pros
Very spacious and quiet.
Cons
Inefficient electric baseboard heating so you have to pay for heating yourself in your electric bill. The walls leaked very often. Multiple paint bubbles and leaks that landlord wouldn't fix quickly. Pipes burst one day and causes massive water damage, mold, holes, and cracks in walls and ceiling. Holes and cracks were not repaired fast enough.
Avoid at all costs
Pros
Apartment was large
Cons
The heating bill was so, so expensive (highest bill was over $700 and this was around 6 years ago) and the apartment never actually got warm. I would always need to wear several layers and use electric blankets. It was so cold while I lived there that in the apartment above ours, the water in the tank of the toilet froze and flooded my apartment. The landlord was useless and frankly cruel when we tried to work with him. When they sent over a plumber to survey for repairs, the plumber actually told me I should try to get out of my lease if I can. We also had issues with mice in the kitchen
Advice to the owners
Owning rental properties isn’t a passive investment. You need to uphold your end of the legally binding contract and provide a habitable environment.
