decent building with steep rental increase

doorman & apartment staff were friendly and helpful
Cons
building is in a constant state of disrepair (ie construction on exterior, roof not open, etc) owner raised rent by over 25% each year

Garden apartment nightmare

The location was excellent

My first apartment in NYC and it was an absolute nightmare. We came back after 2 weeks of holiday to thousands of bugs in the bathroom and kitchen - alive and dead. There is an ant infestation that is deep rooted from the garden. Then we had big cockroaches and centipede. Gas was shut down for over a week and there was no communication.
Advice to the owners
Avoid this flat at all cost!
