Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent reviews of buildings managed by David Shaoulpour reveal consistent issues with management responsiveness and maintenance. Tenants report unresolved water damage, poor heating, pest infestations, and frequent repair delays. Despite occasional positives like good location and regular garbage collection, many tenants express dissatisfaction with management's handling of security deposits and communication, describing some interactions as rude or dismissive. Cleanliness and noise levels vary, but overall upkeep appears lacking. Renters often face unaddressed safety and infrastructure problems, leading to mistrust. Prospective tenants should expect challenges in maintenance response and tenant support when considering these properties.

Water Damage and Old Walls/Ceilings

Pros

Great neighborhood, affordable rent

Cons

I lived on the second floor and my ceiling collapsed from water damage during a storm. I had reported a leak in my ceiling during rainfall a few weeks earlier, and no one responded, then during the harder storm the entire thing, including drywall and plaster, got too waterlogged and collapsed. This happened on a Friday and no one came to fix it until Monday. Owners did not offer any compensation, and there is a strong mold smell. Over the past couple of years, a couple other issues such as: holes in corners of ceiling that would let dirt into the interior of the apartment, exposed brick would shed red dust across items in the rooms

Avoid this landlord at all costs

Pros

Building was fine. Some units are renovated but the ones that are not have a lot of issues (no heat, ongoing water leaks, rodents, etc). The landlord intentionally does not fix them with the hopes of kicking out rent stabilized tenants. Trash was taken out regularly. Good location. Under 5 min walking distance to the Myrtle-Wyckoff L/M and a big grocery store.

Cons

Landlord and his business are operating a scam. They will attempt to steal your security deposit (this happened to at least 3 tenants who lived in the building within a 2 year time period). Superintendent was a drunk and threw parties in the backyard. He also had friends sleep in the basement. Laundry machine was inconsistent and managed by a different company so the building wouldn’t take any responsibility for its malfunctions. It would often fill with water but not run so you’d have to fish your wet clothes out of the machine and take it to the laundromat. AC units were improperly installed and leaked. Roof was not properly built and leaked. Bathroom was not insulated so we had to get a heater for it. Common areas were not well maintained. Roach sightings, dirt, and dog hair were not uncommon.
