Former tenant·Over 1 year ago

A nightmare place to stay at times.

Pros

Maintenance never responds to concerns elevator always goes out past our problem and neighbors are nosy stagnant and stay home all day

Cons

How to get a hold of the super super does not follow up with maintenance concerns in a timely manner; and it is a very low standard keeping building with ignorant people that run it.

Advice to the owners

Fix maintenance concerns in a timely manner incorpate better pest control and prioritize proper diversity in building

AVOID renting from DSJ Management.

Pros

Location near the park and train.

Cons

AVOID the mental anguish of this borderline-criminal enterprise. As noted from previous tenants reviews', the website UX/UI intentionally doesn't have a widget to log complaints (illegal per ADA) therefore there isn't a formal track record and you're stuck chasing around the Super who tells you "they are off work now, its the weekend". From 2021-2023, I've email, text and verbally highlighted an extensive-list of uninhabitable conditions. Monthly floods, throughout several rooms: caused from outside (not pointing bricks'), radiator drainage from the upstairs unit and torrential down pour from a senior-tenants' overflowing the tub.The repeated incidents, festered into black mold and thousands of dollars of damaged equipment. There was no apology, compensation or rent adjustment to reflect the conditions. Although disclosed repeatly, the issues were not acknowledged until I called 311 in March 2023, and paid for a personal mold inspection and lab test, adding to the bill of losses. In conjunction to living with black mold in three rooms for over a year, the list goes on within uninhabitable the dwellings of 50 E 18TH STREET BROOKLYN NY 11226. The laundry list of shanty-town conditions comprise of: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- + The daily, loud music spanning from 8 a.m -10 p.m. + Crumbling ceilings in bathroom and living room. + Tenants smoking cigarettes in hallways. + Rotting window moulding from moisture seeping from outside. + Mice running in walls. + Water pressure issues, leading to leaky faucets. + Rotted sink fixtures. + Roach infestation and carcasses peppered throughout unit, hallways, elevators and washing machine interfaces. + Non working light fixtures from water damage. + Non-working kitchen appliances. + Daily, domestic violence exhibited in hallway. + Daily, verbal scream matches from neighbors in the middle of the night. + Overnight construction and loud banging over the weekends'. By the way.... the list goes on and on with DSJ Management (i.e 20-50 LLC) but I didn't want to write a novel. I'm sure the media and the Department of Justice would have field day with this dilapidated building, held up by the mask of paint. Just save your sanity and AVOID renting from DSJ Management.
