Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent tenant feedback for buildings managed by Mark Engel reveals significant concerns regarding management responsiveness and property upkeep. Many renters report poor cleanliness, persistent pest infestations, inadequate heating, and slow or nonexistent responses to complaints. Issues such as unsafe conditions, neighborhood disturbances, and neglected repairs are frequently mentioned. While a few buildings have some positive attributes like responsive supers and good locations, the overarching sentiment points to neglect and dissatisfaction. Renters advise management to prioritize maintenance, pest control, and tenant safety, emphasizing the need for proactive and timely engagement to improve living environments across these properties.

Reviews

Former tenant·Over 1 year ago

Would rather live in hell

Pros

The super does the best he can.

Cons

Slum lords. Complained about the mice problem and Alex, the new propety manager has done nothing.

Advice to the owners

Take care of your tenants. Waited for a exterminator to come and they never came

Former tenant·Over 1 year ago

inexpensive but dangerous

Pros

Super is great but you have to build a rapport with him Distance to subway is nice

Cons

AVOID LANGSAM PROPERTIES AT ALL COSTS Property owner is very unresponsive A lot of bugs and cockroaches even if you keep your own apartment clean because the building itself is pretty dirty Many tenants who get the cops called on them repeatedly because they do not know how to take care of themselves and are mentally unwell. If you have to live here definitely do research on your upstairs neighbor beforehand, because if you get stuck under a terrible one there’s a good chance you will be put in danger, have many sleepless nights, multiple leaks, and have your ceiling collapse at least twice (speaking from experience). The SWAT team even came for you upstairs neighbor, and the property manager continued to let the neighbor stay. Even if you cancel your lease, they’ll come back and try to extort more money out of you. They really do not care about you in the slightest.

Advice to the owners

Be more responsive—people’s lives are at stake, all they want is a timely response from you.
