They Turned a Great Building into a Horrible Building

Pros

A generally great building. Very few issues when we moved in and it felt new enough while retaining enough old school charm. Really a perfect location, neighborhood-wise.

Cons

The building was sold and purchased by a very large company who came in to renovate every apartment that wasn't under rent control. One by one all current tenants were refused new leases until only a the rent controlled tenants were left. When renovations began, they were performed daily during the pandemic while most remaining tenants were still working or quarantining at home. The new management company was ruthless, cutting power and water without warning, and if warning was given, exceeding the hours advertised. Multiple tenants got stuck in the elevator repeatedly. The building is currently undergoing elevator renovations, stranding tenants who have difficulty with stairs on the higher-up floors. Rats have shown up in vacant apartments and spilled into the halls, mold from leaks, flooding to the shared laundry room used by the non-renovated apartments. This is a prime example of rich real-estate goons coming in and ruining a building with history. The owners were clueless and heartless. Management was clueless and wringing their hands, lying to the tenants. The building handyman they employed was nice enough but couldn't fix much. Now it's just an overpriced building in Brooklyn Heights. I feel bad for anyone who's moved in since the pandemic started.

Advice to the owners

Upgraded building, still needs work

Pros

Finishes are nice, apartments are big and location is great.

Cons

- Under construction so we have gone without heat and hot water on a number of occasions (about 4). - No amenities, but they keep being promised - Building management company is unresponsive

Advice to the owners

Respond and help fix issues.
