Livable, but you can probably find something better for this price

Pros

Never saw any pests, someone cleans the hallways and takes trash to the curb every week, neighbors are nice and usually quiet, super close to the train and several bus stops, laundry in basement that you can pay by app, management is generally responsive on weekdays (nearly impossible to contact on weekends though, even when our apartment flooded)

Cons

Some bedrooms are twin sized. Some bedrooms don’t have sunlight because they’re up against another building. The only storage available in my unit was 4 kitchen cabinets and a 1 foot wide closet in each bedroom. The street can get very loud sometimes, especially during the summer (get used to the sound of the Mister Softee truck). No rooftop access unless you climb up a very sketch looking ladder. The ceilings are super high (like 13 feet) which makes our electric bills insanely high when we turn on the AC. Management is generally responsive to issues, but the building seems to be very poorly built. We dealt with a gas leak which resulted in no heat for multiple days during wintertime. We also dealt with a serious leak that led to the apartment flooding. We did not receive a rent abatement for either of those issues.

Advice to the owners

Do a thorough inspection of the building and fix the issues ahead of time instead of just waiting for things to break

Run for your life

Pros

There certainly were good things, large windows, my unit had washer dryer, close to the subway, but the bad outweighed the good.

Cons

The building is terribly constructed. The gas line was constructed in an illegal way, which caused a gas leak. When they came to fix the gas leak, they discovered my boiler was constructed illegally as well, and could have exploded at any time. This left us with no gas or heat for two weeks during the coldest days of the year. Not even a month later, the ceiling in our basement started leaking, which then progressed into water pouring out of my ceiling in my room, in the kitchen, and in the basement, with the pressure of a bathtub being filled. My roommates and I had to evacuate and now cannot return to our apartment. The building management is extremely evasive, defensive, and does not take issues seriously. They waive off safety concerns and try to blame it on random things, and when professionals come to fix it they very clearly said to me that the building is lying to us. If they try to tell you all these issues have been fixed, do not believe them. They slap a bandaid on a bullet hole and call it solved, then it happens again. The things I mentioned in this review are only the tip of the iceberg, and I guarantee that not a single neighbor of mine would recommend you move in. DEFINITELY not worth the price.

Advice to the owners

Take responsibility and get licensed professionals to redo your building so it is legally constructed.
