Great family owned building
Pros
The building is on a quiet block right off Riverside Park and right around the corner from the 103rd street 1 train, so it's very convenient with easy access to a lot of what the neighborhood and the city has to offer while also being the perfect place to retreat to at the end of the day. It's an older building and a lot of what makes it charming has been fairly well maintained (fireplaces, parquet flooring, hinged windows, etc), which is great to see when so many landlords seen to have opted to renovate their units into soulless "modern" boxes. There are 9 units in total and it seems to have a very low tenant turnover rate, so you get to know your neighbors (or at the very least recognize them) which creates a level of comfort you don't always get in larger buildings with high tenant turnover. Both of the owners sons live in the building (one upstairs and one downstairs), and both are very great and friendly guys, so the responsiveness to any issues was always quick and pleasant. The apartment itself, a studio, was a generous size by NYC standards and easily fit a desk area, living space, and bedroom space with room to spare and without feeling cramped.
Cons
While the owners were very quick and responsive to any issues that came up, their maintenance man could be dismissive and I sometimes felt like I had to do a lot of work to convince him that there was truly an issue. Even then, it felt like he would only "band-aid" fix the issue which would result in my having to bring it up again later when the issue inevitably resurfaced.
