Safe, clean, and quiet
Pros
If your parents are worried about safety, this building will put them at ease. The area is super quiet and well lit. You have a 24/7 doorman and maintenance crew. They were all super nice and great at keeping track of packages for every tenant. The building is very clean. I saw no pests the entire year of my lease. My roommate saw one house centipede. The building also has an elevator and laundry room. We didn't have any maintenance issues. Phoning management can be a hassle. Email worked better for us, so response time was maybe a day. The C-town grocery store was relatively affordable. Check out Heavenly Market and Pho Shop if you're in the area. If friends with cars are driving into Manhattan to visit you, free parking is available nearby. It's definitely less stressful parking here compared to other areas of Manhattan. I don't regret living here. I think it was a good transition apartment from suburbs to city.
Cons
The area has restaurants and bars but caters more to an older crowd. I preferred going to Midtown for food and entertainment. The commute can feel long. The Q and 6 train are far. Walking over takes 15 min (long by NYC standards). There's a bus if you're feeling lazy. My neighbors were quiet, and we didn't interact much. My downstairs neighbor did complain about us making chair scraping sounds to the doorman or management. Doorman let us know. We were more mindful about it. Doorman told us they didn't hear any more noise. No drama. We were in the wrong, but it did stick with me for being a little petty. Oh and since the staff is pretty large (5+ people), tipping during Xmas gets expensive. Decision to move was based on price (UES can be super pricey) and wanting to live closer to work in a busier area.
Advice to the owners
Keep the staff members you have cause they're awesome. My upgrade wish would be ceilings lights.
