Old building, falling apart, bad management
Pros
Some of the units are pretty big. The location is excellent; proximity to the train, grocery, and local nightlife make this prime.
Cons
The building is infested with bugs (roaches, spiders, and all other types of creepy crawlies), the windows/walls aren’t sealed to the outside. There’s mold inside the walls and the management won’t do anything to fix it. The elevator is almost always broken; good luck if you live on the 6th floor. One of their selling points was in-building laundry, then they priced out the laundry owner to renovate, split the location in 2, and put a salon in its place. So, no laundry. Unless you’re paying pandemic rent prices, this place is not worth the high rent they advertise. I wouldn’t pay more than $2200 for a 2 bedroom here with the amount of problems the building and each unit has.
Advice to the owners
Replace the elevator. Renovate the units. Fix the walls (inside and out). Deal with the pests.
One of the worst places I’ve lived
Pros
You bond with neighbors over the frustrating management pretty fast. Ibro, the super, is also very nice but seems stretched too thin and probably doesn’t have the support he needs.
Cons
Major pest issues - they are lying when they say they have not had bedbugs. They have had them as recent as February 2021. Roaches are also a huge issue in this building. The infrastructure is falling apart - major plumbing issues that are solved for the short term. Water goes off unexpectedly and with no explanation. I did not have water for two whole days at the start of the pandemic and did not receive a response from management until I threatened legal action and to blast them on social media. Packages are constantly stolen. They only installed cameras in the lobby after a tenant was assaulted leaving the building, and even then there are non-tenants regularly roaming the halls, sleeping on stairs, and trashing the roof. Management (The Pistilli family specifically) is rude and inattentive. They don’t seem to care much about the state of their buildings and continue to raise rent while not even meeting the bare minimum. I had to fight for my deposit back as well. Finally got it back after threatening legal action (again). If you live or plan to live in this building, proceed with caution and know your rights as a tenant. What they’re doing is illegal.
Advice to the owners
Care about your tenants safety. If you’re going to continuously raise rent, you should at least be able to answer emails about general safety concerns.
